Three Separate Vehicle Stops Lead to Drug Bust

Haywood County, NC: By conducting three separate vehicle stops Haywood County Sheriff’s Office deputies seized 6.6 pounds of methamphetamine, 33.6 grams of Fentanyl, and 7.2 grams of heroin and charged four individuals with drug trafficking.
“Deputies with the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office continue to aggressively pursue those trafficking illegal drugs in our county as reflected in these most recent arrests”, stated Haywood County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Jeff Haynes. “Our efforts will continue as we move toward making our community safe and secure from those wishing otherwise.”

Allen White was charged with:
– 2 Counts Trafficking in Methamphetamine
– Possession with Intent to Sell/Manufacture/Deliver Schedule II Controlled Substance
– Maintaining a Vehicle or Dwelling Place
– Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle
And was placed in the Haywood County Detention Center with a $1,000,000 secured bond.
Christina Hutslar was charged with:
– Trafficking in Methamphetamine
– Possession of Methamphetamine
– Maintaining a Vehicle or Dwelling Place
– Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle
And was placed in the Haywood County Detention Center with a $500,000 secured bond.
Brenton Plott was charged with:
– 4 Counts Trafficking in Opium or Heroin
– 2 Counts Conspiring to Traffic in Opium or Heroin
And was placed in the Haywood County Detention Center with a $150,000 secured bond.
Ryan Penland was charged with:
– 2 Probation Violations
– 2 Counts Maintaining a Dwelling
– 2 Counts Trafficking in Opium or Heroin
– 2 Counts Trafficking in Methamphetamine
– Possession with an Intent to Sell/Manufacture/Deliver Schedule II Controlled Substance
– Driving without a License Not Impaired
– Possession with Intent to Manufacture/Sell/Deliver Methamphetamine
And was placed in the Haywood County Detention Center with a $1,000,000 secured bond.

Haywood County Phone Scam

We are receiving reports of scammers claiming to be officers with the Waynesville Police Department, NC. The caller (scammer) states that there is a warrant for the victim’s (or a family member’s) arrest and demands payment in the form of gift cards or prepaid cards.
DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES SEND THESE SCAMMERS MONEY. THE CALLER WILL TRY TO INSTILL A SENSE OF URGENCY AND MAY SOUND THREATENING.

HCSO Traffic Stop Busts Meth Trafficker

Clyde, NC: Haywood County Sheriff’s Office deputies seized 4.1 pounds of methamphetamine during a traffic stop resulting in one arrest and trafficking charges.
At approximately 4:00 PM on November 2nd a Haywood County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a Ford F350 pick-up pulling a trailer traveling eastbound on US 23. The driver, later identified as Brandon Purvis of Waynesville, refused to follow the deputy’s repeated instructions to stop and a chase ensued.
While Mr. Purvis was fleeing arrest, the deputy witnessed him throw a large black bag out of the passenger window. The pursuit continued until Purvis was stopped near Lake Junaluska and was taken into custody without incident.
Haywood County Sheriff’s deputies retrieved the bag discovering several bags of methamphetamine totaling 4.1 pounds. A search incident to arrest along with a search warrant of his residence produced drug paraphernalia, a handgun, and $26,317.00.
“I am proud of the work our Drug Unit and our Criminal Suppression Unit continues to do to take these trafficking amounts of illicit drugs off of our highways and out of our communities. We are in a war to keep these drugs out of the hands of our children and we must continue working diligently to seek out these individuals that bring drugs into Haywood County,” stated Sheriff Greg Christopher.

• Trafficking in Methamphetamine by Possession
• Trafficking Methamphetamine by Transport
• Possession Schedule I Controlled Substance
• Possession Controlled Substance
• Maintaining a Vehicle/Dwelling Place
• Possession of Firearm by a Convicted Felon
• Other Drug Violations
And was placed in the Haywood County Detention Center with a secured bond of $2,000,000.00.
