HAYWOOD COUNTY, N.C. — A missing Haywood County man who prompted a public search effort has been found deceased, according to the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities announced Tuesday afternoon that Ronda Duane Bledsoe, 87, has been located and is “now at rest.” Officials did not release additional details regarding the circumstances of his death, citing respect for the family’s privacy. Information related to any potential medical conditions will not be made public.
Bledsoe had been reported missing earlier after he was last seen at his residence on Junco Cove Road in Maggie Valley. Deputies said he was believed to have wandered away from home and noted he suffered from severe cognitive decline, raising concerns for his safety.
During the search, law enforcement urged the public to contact authorities only with credible sightings or information, while deputies and partner agencies conducted coordinated efforts to locate him.
The sheriff’s office expressed appreciation for the community’s assistance, including those who shared information and helped in the search.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time,” the agency said in a statement.
