High Fire Danger

PRESS RELEASE – Fire danger is elevated across the state, including here in Haywood County. While there is currently no burn ban, the Haywood County Fire Marshal strongly discourages any outdoor burning at this time due to strong winds, low humidity, and warm temperatures that can cause fires to spread very quickly.
🔥 From the Haywood County Fire Marshal:
If you must burn:
• You must stay with the fire the entire time
• Keep a cell phone on you in case you need to call 911
• Have a way to extinguish the fire immediately (water hose or extinguisher)
• Only burn natural vegetation in its natural state — NO trash, lumber, or building materials
Careless debris burning is the leading cause of wildfires in North Carolina, according to the NC Forest Service.
We all play a role in keeping Haywood County safe.
